If you get the Summer Session scholarship (which you will if you apply), it covers the same percentage of tuition and housing as your financial aid covers of your term tuition.

It doesn't. Most it covers is half of the tuition. And that's not including housing.

I thought financial aid doesn't cover tuition for summer courses.

If the OP takes a summer session class or two and also during that time does volunteer work, he/she will get the same financial aid as if she were here term time along with affordable on and off campus living options. If OP has full tuition covered, this will apply during the summer too. Same if the OP goes abroad with the Yale Summer Session--ISA will cover a percentage of the cost based on how much FA the OP gets during the year. So these are still good options for if she can't find a job or an internship--and the abroad opportunity in particular shouldn't be wasted if the OP doesn't have the means to travel without help.

Lots of people take summer courses. OP could even apply to be a summer session counselor, or get a part time job in New Haven while taking a summer course. Or alternatively, get a part time job at a restaurant or in an office in her hometown (housing taken care of!) and do volunteer work/research the rest of the time. Yalies suffer from the delusion that they have to do something glamorous over the summer, but some of the best experiences are the ones that aren't glamorous.

And, finally, please don't assume. I've always needed to make money over the summer. But one summer I did do the summer session in Siena and then worked in a restaurant for all of August. So I have considered finances and I do know these are workable options for people who need to make money because I myself have considered them.

You are not considering the option that the OP cannot afford going abroad or doing just volunteer work. Perhaps he/she needs a paying job and therefore options are limited.

You'll find something. Sometimes great stuff turns up at the last minute (ie, in May). And if you can't find an internship, there's still time to apply for the summer session, both here and abroad. Maybe you can take a couple classes and do a lot of volunteer work, or even be some prof's research assistant. There's lots of options.

I'm sure you'll find something great! I figured out my summer plans really late too and it still worked out. Good luck! Even though you're searching/applying for internships, make sure to spend sometime having fun too : )
